As one of the bonuses for being the cover athlete, Edu will serve as one of several playable Miis in FIFA Soccer 09 All-Play, alongside Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney, Franck Ribery, and others. In college, he starred as a three-year starter for Maryland. Edu, who was the 2007 MLS Rookie of the Year after being the draft's first overall pick, has seven caps for the United States men's national team. The third cover athlete, replacing Villareal striker Jozy Altidore, is perhaps the player who best bridges the Canadian-American gap: American international Maurice Edu, who plays in midfield for MLS side Toronto FC. Two of the three cover athletes are the same as last year: Ronaldinho, newly of AC Milan, and Guillermo Ochoa, the Mexican international keeper who plays for Club America. IGN can reveal today that the cover of this year's upcoming FIFA 09 in North America will, much like last year, include three players.
